5 Months

Woah Nelly!! Time is going by fast. I know that is so cliche, but really the months are just flying by.

Stats: Well we didn't have a doctor's appointment this month, so I just measured Hayes at home. He is a little over 28" in length. I tried to weigh him, but our scale is crazy! It said I weigh like 6 pounds more than I do, and that Hayes only weighed 14 pounds. I know he weighs more than that, lets just hope that I also don't weigh that much more!!!

Milestones: Hayes is still constantly on the move. I lay him on the floor to change him and go two steps away to grab a diaper and he has already flipped over and is just staring at me. He has also started sitting unassisted for a couple of seconds on a soft surface. He can even sit himself back up if he starts to tip over. Hayes's hand eye coordination is really improving, if you are holding him and standing near someone else, he will reach over and rub them. He hasn't started to put out his hands to be picked up yet, but he is getting close.

Feeding: April 20th we started solid foods. I planned on doing a post on it, but once again I never got around to it. He loves to eat! Actually it is hard to get him to take a bottle now. I also stopped breastfeeding/ pumping this month. It just didn't make sense anymore. I was only producing 3 ounces all day when I was at work. Hayes seems to have less gas and upset stomachs since I stopped also. I must have been eating stuff that didn't agree with him. I still feel kind of guilty for giving up. I know I shouldn't but I just can't help it. Anyway he loves solid food and he eats a ton of it. Right now he is eating at least 3 meals a day. Usually he gets banana and oatmeal for breakfast, avocado or sweet potato for lunch and prunes and oatmeal for dinner. He seems more content for longer periods of time, and is sleeping for longer stretches, and I'm guessing this is because of the solids.
I feel like he looks so old here!

Behavior: Hayes is still such a good boy. He is started to get a temper though. If you put him somewhere that he doesn't want to be, he lets you know! His whole head will turn red and he screams like he is hurt, until you pick him up, and then he just grins, little stinker. Hayes has also started screaming like a girl, just for fun. He can get quit loud and then he usually works himself up so much he gets mad. He also gets mad if you don't feed him fast enough. While eating, he likes his mouth completely full of food or he starts getting crabby. He starts coming at the spoon like a hungry little bird, it is so cute!
He gets so excited to eat!

Sleep: I think the solids are really helping with his sleep. Friday night he slept 10 hours, Saturday 11  and Sunday night 11. Last night he did wake up once after 8 hours to eat and then went right back to sleep. Lets hope I didn't just jinx myself again. Naps are still hit and miss with him. One day he will take 2, two hour naps and then little 30 minute cat nap in the evening, other days, he will nap for a total of 1 hour. That little boy is on no ones schedule but his own.

Clothes: Hayes is outgrowing most of his 6 month clothes. He still wears them, but they are like knickers. He wears anything from 6 month to 24 month clothes. Baby sizes are so crazy. We also just switched him to size 4 diapers from Target. Which are also weird, they aren't any bigger around then the 3's, they are just longer.

So Chris is back home now, and I still haven't gotten any pictures of Hayes and him. Probably because Chris has been working like 16 hour days, and we hardly ever see him.
This picture is from Chris's birthday in January it was just too cute not to post

Mother's Day was pretty uneventful. Chris, Hayes and I drove around car lots looking for a new truck for Chris. Then we went to my mom's for dinner, and then Chris had to go to work. Maybe one weekend soon, I can have a redo. Or maybe I can just combine it with my birthday, and do something fun on Memorial Day weekend. So yeah, I didn't take any pictures this weekend, so there was no point in doing a separate post. I am so thankful that Chris is working so much, but it would be nice if he got a little break so we could have some family time. =) I know I know, got to make hay while the sun shines, haha literally!

Boots

So Nicole over at That's Life has inspired me. Or maybe just made me realize that I am in a serious foot wear rut! I used to wear cowboy boots everyday, then sometime after I got married I switched to Romeos. They are like an old man's slipper. So cozy and when they are new, they are not too unstylish, but when you wear them everyday for like a year, they tend to look well like old man slippers!
So Chris and I have been married for 5 years this summer, and I don't want to completely fall into a frumpy unstylish look, which is so easy to do with a baby! So in an attempt to spice up my wardrobe a little, I think I need some new boots!
Here are the ones I have found so far.
These are Romeos, for anyone who might be wondering what in the heck I was talking about

I'll let you know which ones I get, and maybe do a little photo shoot?

All of these boots are from Sheplers. Sorry I'm not all fancy, I don't know how to make it so you can click on the boot and make it take you to it on their site. I probably should have made a collage so this wasn't so long too! Oh well I tried, I should get some points for coming up with an original post all on my own that doesn't have to do with Hayes!

Sorry if you are not into boots, that post probably just completely bore you! Hopefully I will get to at least do something for mother's day and I will do a weekend wrap up. Chris is taking Sunday off of work, so maybe he has something up his sleeve?! Oh and a 5 month post, because baby boy just turned 5 months yesterday!

4 Months

Stats: Hayes is still a big boy! At his 4 month doctors appointment he was, 17lbs (90th percentile) 27" (95th percentile) 43cm head circumference (75th percentile) The doctor's assistant, or whoever she was that checked us in at the doctor and took Hayes's measurements, had everything all messed up.  She had the weight right, because it was digital, but she read the growth chart wrong, and said he was only in the 50 percentile. Then when she measured how long he was, she didn't hold her pen straight when she was marking the top of his head, and then when she measured the paper there was a fold in the paper. So anyway, she only measured Hayes at 26" so when she left the room, I remeasured him. hehe =) Above are my measurements. Oh and she had to measure his head like five times, and made me double check her measurement, crazy lady!

Milestones: Hayes is really starting to move this month. On April 1st  he started consistently rolling from his back to his stomach. Which makes for a fun diaper change. Hayes is much better at intentionally grabbing things. He is really trying to be on the move, if you stand him up, he starts taking steps. When he is on his stomach, he gets up on his toes and pushes. He can also hold himself up on his hands with straight arms, as soon as he puts the 2 together, he will be moving.
Blowing bubbles

Feeding: Hayes is still eating about six ounces every 3-4 hours. We got the go ahead to start solids from the doctor (which we have now, pics to come).

Behavior: Hayes is still happy 95% of the time. He is still really only crabby if he is hungry, tired or sometimes bored. We have had some nice days, and he LOVES! being outside. I have a feeling he is going to be daddy's little helper as soon as he is walking. Chris was home last weekend and he kept saying wow, I can't believe we have such a happy boy! All you have to do is make eye contact with Hayes and he just lights up! I hope he is always this happy!

Sleep: Still no real improvement on the sleep front. He seems to be doing better with naps, usually taking 2 two hour naps and then a short one in the late afternoon. Nighttime he is still waking up once or twice to eat. He is still good at going right back to sleep though. His doctor recommended some gentle sleep training, so I need to get to the library and get the book she recommended.

Clothes: Hayes is still in the same size clothes as he was last month for the most part. There are a couple of sleepers he is too long for now. He is generally still wearing 6-12 month clothes. He was wearing a 18 month onsie the other day, and it fit great I just had to roll up the sleeves once, maybe he has a long torso. Hayes is still wearing size 3 diapers from Target.

Chris was home this past weekend, and I just realized, I didn't get a single picture :( Grr that makes me so mad. Oh well hopefully he will be back sooner than 6 weeks, like last time.

Weekend Wrap-Up

Friday mom and I did our usually shopping trip. We went to Costco and stocked up. They had tons of samples, probably because it was Easter weekend. So we cruised around Costco with Hayes in the Bjorn and tasted all the samples. I think I only dropped food on his head a couple of times. haha. On the way out we stopped for Polish hot dogs and got a whole combo pizza to go.

Hayes has found his feet
Then we headed to Target to get diapers and get a shower gift. My cousin Garrett is getting married next month, and we are going to a bridal shower for his fiance next weekend. Then we stopped at Fred Meyer's to pick up the fresh stuff. That night we just stayed home, had pizza and relaxed.

Saturday was the opening day of the Farmer's Market, so we thought it would be fun to walk around there for a little while. I didn't find anything too interesting. There were quite a few food vendors with long lines. Jess and my mom tried some Indian food. The only food I wanted to try was the BBQ but it had a really long line, and it was $8.50 for a sandwich, so I just settled for a hot-crossed bun.
After the Farmer's Market Hayes and I met up with my friend Jessica and we walked around Lake Padden. It was really nice out. It felt so warm in the sun, but there was a chilly breeze coming off the water. My car said it was 50 degrees outside, haha. We walked about 2 miles, and man my shoulders were killing me by the time we were done. Hayes had also had enough of being in the Bjorn, so I had to take him out and just snuggle him as we walked the last 1/4 mile or so.

Hayes and I rushed home after walking, and went with mom to my cousin's uncles funeral (on her mom's side). Anyway it was at the ferry terminal and it was really sad. He died at 56 after a 9 month battle with Lymphoma. Of course Hayes was not in the best of moods by then, because he is not used to being away from home for that long, and he didn't really nap all day. So most of the time he and I just walked around the terminal. It was too windy and cold to go outside but it looked beautiful. I guess I should have taken a picture. We didn't get home until about 5:30 so we just sat out on the deck and drank a beer.

This is his new "pumpkin face"

Sunday we had nice weather again and we spend most of the day outside on the deck soaking in the vitamin D. We didn't really do much for Easter since Hayes is too young to care and Chris is still working out of town. I did dress Hayes up as a bunny though, I'm sure he will love that picture when he gets older! The work week is so much easier to start after getting to enjoy some sun.

I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend!

Weekend Wrap-up

I work a short day on Friday, so when I got off work. We did a mini photo shoot. Haha. The baby is cute, the background, not so much. I should really pay more attention to all the baby crap when I take pictures.

Anyway then in the afternoon we went and picked up my step daughter A for the weekend. She hasn't been over since New Years because she ended up having something planned on each of our weekends. Ah the life of an 11 year old girl, I have a feeling it is only going to get worse.

It was nice having A because she loved to just sit and make faces and entertain Hayes. he wasn't such a fan of her holding him though. He was much happier to just sit in his chair and have her talk to him.

It was actually decent weather this weekend. It was sunny and I think we got up to about 60 degrees! So on Saturday mom and A did some gardening and I put Hayes in the Bjorn and walked around through the field.  Mom's garden is usually a lot further along by now, but since she has been watching Hayes since I went back to work, she hasn't really gotten many chances to be outside. That and the wonderful rain and snow that we have been having lately!

Saturday night A, Hayes and I started a puzzle. Exciting I know. It was so cute though, as I was going through the puzzle pieces looking for edges, Hayes was just watching so intently, like he couldn't wait to get his sticky little hands on the pieces and see how they taste. It seems like everything goes in his mouth lately. I was holding him yesterday, while I was dishing up my dinner plate, and I looked over and he had a hand full of my hair in his mouth. Yummy!

Yesterday we had nice weather too, so we spent some time outside and BBQ'd some chicken. Hayes wasn't so sure what to think about being outside.

He enjoyed it for a little while but then I think he started getting tired, and it was too bright for him to fall asleep, because I brought him in and put him in his swing and he fell right to sleep. He hardly ever sleep in his swing, so he must have been tired.

Speaking of tired, Hayes must being going through a growth spurt. Saturday night I think he nursed all night so I just kept him in bed with me. He got up for the day at 7:30, had a bottle at about 8 then fell back asleep until noon! Then last night he was at 1, 3:30 and 5 to eat. Then he decided not to go back to sleep. Grr, I have know clue how people get their babies one a schedule. If you have any advice, I would love to hear it.

Anyway, we stopped on the way to take A home last night and got a Dairy Queen ice cream cone. Chris is still working out of town so we had a pretty lazy weekend! It would have been perfect if I could have gotten just a little more sleep. I'm kinda draggin' butt today. How was your weekend?
